Washing machine stopped no power

Hi,

If a washing machine has this problem, I presume it is an electrical problem (fuse has been checked). Also, then very unlikely and dangerous to repair oneself?

The machine is about ten years old. Would you agree it is better to just buy another and avoid paying to have it checked/repaired?
N.B. The old one would be removed for free if a new one is purchased.

Thanks.

When you say "stopped" - it's not just the belt snapped or the bushes in the motor need replacing ? Both of these are relatively common, and easy to fix ( DIY job if you're even slightly technically minded, or cheap to get someone to do it ). Or is there genuinely no power at all getting to the machine ? If so, have you tried plugging it into a different socket, or else plugged a lamp or something into that socket, to check the fault isn't with the socket itself ?

If the socket is good, and you say you've replaced the fuse, try googling the specific make / model of your machine. You'll often find other people have had the same problem and you can see the common causes. If it is a part that needs replacing, have a quick look on eSpares.co.uk, you can at least get an idea of how much the part is going to be. Even if you then need someone to fit it for you, you can get a rough idea of what it's going to cost, and decide if it's worth repairing.

Check the outlet hose, is it blocked or kinked ?

Hi Ebe Scrooge and Sailor Sam,

Thanks, very pleased to have your replies.

No, it seems "there is genuinely no power at all getting to the machine". (Not very knowledgeable about these appliances). Machine just stopped working and the light saying "on" went off. Will check if it isn't the socket itself and the outlet hose.

Hi, check the door switch, as the power is cut when you open the door and its common for them to go faulty, so the machine will appear dead.

Try running an extension lead from a known working socket just to check the machine.

We thought our dishwasher had packed up but it was the extension socket that had failed.

But in answer to should you just buy a new machine - not very mse but at 10 years I would say yes as they are relatively cheap nowadays and a call out fee will be a long way to a new one.

Try plugging another eletrical item e.g tablelamp into the washing machine socket.
