Car Insurance Problems

Options
On 3rd November last year my husband had his first accident in 30 years. We were all in the car at the time he accidentally hit the rear of the car in front. Both parties pulled over and we exchanged details. There did not appear to be any damage to her car but seeing it was nearly new my husband suggested she got it checked over. We assumed she would get this done straight away and were expecting a letter from her insurance company over the next couple of weeks.
This morning (almost 7 months later) she rings and complains that she has had to have her car repaired and her insurance company have tried to deal with my husband's insurance company (Lloyds TSB) and she stated that Lloyds maintain they have no insurance in my husband's name and that a letter which had been sent to us did not arrive because we had not lived at our address for several years.
I rang Lloyds TSB and they were really helpful but I was shocked to hear that she can still claim 7 months down the line although most people will treat an accident (car damage) as a matter of urgency.
Can someone tell me how long after an accident can someone make a claim. We are mystified as to what all her accusations are about. Why hasn't she bothered to phone me in the last 200 odd days. For all we know she could have backed her car into a lamp post since the incident.
Grateful for any feedback on this.

You can make the claim up to 6 years after the accident. The time limit is set by the statute of limitations. If the claim involves injury, the time limit is 3 years or in the case of a minor, 3 years after their 18th birthday.
