you find that in new build houses they will use contract matt as its as cheap as chips, but you cant rub any marks off it.please do not pick on me for my grammar,I left school at fifteen and worked in the building trade for 55years ,

Yep, thought so... next months offers for anyone interested:
(CLICK FOR BIGGER)
Coverage with Glidden Vinyl Matt/Contract Matt is about 14-15m² per litre, so work it out from that. The difference between the 2 is, Contract Matt is generally for new plaster, and Vinyl Matt is for redecorating, although you can use Contract matt for either. Vinyl Emulsion can be used once the plaster has fully dried out.
Ok, Ok, TheOne, no need to rub it in:p , actually I went there today, and believe it or not, I got the 10ltr tubs cheaper than what was advertised.
It doesnt matter if they have sales on all the time, (a bit like MFI), at the end of the day we save loads of money for paint that is made by ICI (dulux)
The paint is just as thick as 'crown' and you are paying so much less.
If you buy a 'dulux' colour from B&Q, you are paying £26 for vinyl paint, you buy Gliddens and a 10 ltr tub costs under £15.00, it still does the same job.
If your worried about wiping it down then you buy 'real life' by dulux which is great stuff, but thinner, if you wipe it you dont see the mark.
But in all honesty, if you get any marks on the wall, and you try and touch it in, it will show, so you may as well roll the whole wall again, and that is the beauty of gliddens, its cheap, got great coverage, and does the job.:D0 -
its a rented house, so the tenants rubbing any marks off will be somthing very new, previous tenants havent touched the house they just live in it, i think they look after the kitchen and bathroom but thats it.
so its just either touching the marks up or paint the dirty walls again after a few years, so we aint fussed, if we were to live in it then it would have been a good brand, but i think this will do the job, now its just making sure we have enough of it,
thanks for all the info though, its been extremly helpful, it think its just a matter of doing it once and then we should be fine.
i have this forum so any problem i will post here.
thanks again.0 -
Sorry to hijack thread but I am currently doing a similar project on my new house.
Is it ok to use Gliddens for the first two coats on fresh plaster and then Dulux Rich Matt for the top coat?
I was going to use Dulux trade as recommended on this site, but Gliddens is much cheaper.
If it's not ok to mix them, is Dulux's main brand Pure Brilliant White much worse than the Dulux Trade, as it comes in about £10 less for 10 litres in my local DIY store? I don't mind paying more for good quality paint as long as it is economical.
Thanks :money:Total Original Debt: £30404.24

Yes, you can mix gliddens and dulux, as they both practically come off the same assembly line,as long as you dont mix matt and silk.
If new plaster stick to matt, then six months or so, you can change over to silk without any problems occuring
I have just gone and got a lot more gliddens for this biggish job I am starting next week, and I cant believe how thick it is for the price you pay.
Gliddens Undercoat and gloss is very good as well.0 -

Yes ashli, anyone can walk in, admittidly I have a card, but that is cause I am in the trade, but joe or jane bloggs can walk in, you will have to pay 17.5 VAT, but even so, it should work out that even with the VAT the 10 ltr tub will only cost you approx £15.
I know there is more offers next week also, if you buy a box of five hamiliton brushes, I think they work out at £17.99 plus vat you also get a free watch.:j :j :j
I had a look at ebay, as I am a big fan of 'hamilton' brushes, and even on there the cheapest plus postage is more than you would get at the dulux centre next week.
But the decorating centre should normally you 10% off for cash, not cards but cash, so its worth going in, and seeing whats on offer.
they also have something like 30% off lining paper, I think its only 1000 grade which is no good to me, but its still a bargain.
Ifti says her Dulux shop is also offering 20%off some things, but I dont know if my local one is, so I will have to check that out.:D0 -
misgrace its a 'he' lol0
