Honeymoon America

Hello,

Me and my bride to be will be embarking on our honeymoon to America (New york, Las Vegas, Yosemite,Napa,San Francisco) in late September. I am looking at trying to pull on the heart strings of some of the hotels we are going too to get some freebies I just want some advice from anyone for the best ways to do it.

So my idea is to send an email to them basically asking them to do something small for my bride to be (Mentioning the words bride and Honeymoon in the email for sure) but not asking for anything free. How early should I send this email and is it better just to come out with it.

Any advice will be fantastic as I just want this to be the best experience for my bride.

Thanks i advance

  • First of all, congratulations!

You can try Crispy Hotel if you are shopping around to find the best hotel that will suit you and your wife. Rates and reviews can be viewed as well.

I hope this helps and good luck! :)

It's certainly worth an email as long as you view any little extras as a nice perk rather than expecting the earth and being disappointed.

I emailed maybe a couple of months before just mentioning we would be on our honeymoon and basically asking for a nice room with a bit of privacy ;) The place we stayed in San Diego had free champagne and chocolates waiting in the room for us which was nice, plus I think we got a room upgrade. Others didn't do anything although several of the bookings were very cheap deals via Priceline or Hotwire so I didn't expect much in terms of extra service.

We also had some success mentioning it (pretty much by accident!) when checking in - only free breakfast vouchers but they were worth about $20 each a day so better than nothing!

In Vegas they couldn't have cared less, don't know if that's because so many people staying there are getting married or on honeymoon or if we just had bad luck.

I would say smaller or more out of the way places are more concerned about going the extra mile to do something nice for you, but it's definitely worth a shot :)

Thank you very much that is most kind of you to congratulate us. I have found our hotels for the trip I'm just seeing whether people have had any luck with getting any freebies (upgrade rooms, champagne on arrival) and if anyone has any advice.

That's really good advice I'm not looking for the world or really expecting anything I think more being cheeky and seeing what we can get. We will have a fantastic time regardless. I really did not want to email to much in advance.

And thank you very much for the link I have saved it for future holidays!!!

Hi, you will have an amazing honeymoon, we did similar for ours 5 years ago, it was a true trip of a lifetime. We started in San Franciso, up to Napa, Carmel, Yosemite, Death Valley, Vegas and then LA.

I did mention our honeymoon to the hotels I booked direct, and the others were booked by our travel agent. We did get a monster upgrade in the first place in San Francisco, not through asking, but we arrived fresh from the plane, and the check in lady asked if it was our first time to the US. We told her yes, and it was the first day of our honeymoon. She looked at the screen said "oh no this room won't do" and gave use the keys to a suite for 3 nights. Fab!

Others didn't really do anything, we paid for our own upgrade in Vegas, but we didn't really expect anything to be honest.

The main thing is just enjoy all of it.

And that is the best attitude to approach a trip.

Hotel check in staff (particularly in Vegas) will encounter numerous honeymooners on a daily basis

The only way to ensure an upgrade on a flight or hotel is to pay for it!

Even premium loyalty card holders for airlines and hotel chains are not guaranteed upgrades - so I would suggest that you should be prepared to accept the standard of room you have paid for - and any upgrade should be deemed as a bonus.

Thank you very much for the feedback so far. I am not expecting anything upgraded just getting the best possible chance. It will be an amazing trip whatever.

Michele is there anything that you recommend I should do on the trip (Places to eat/Places to go)?
