License Query
Hi guys
I have a bit of a weird one here, I haven't driven in several years and had no plans to so I let my photocard expire in December last year. Am now back staying at my parents and now need to be able to drive, I have sent off all the paperwork to DVLA to renew my photocard, do I need to wait for this to come back before I can drive again or am I still allowed to drive whilst I am awaiting its return?
any help gratefully recieved
p.s. I didn't lose my license, just allowed the photocard to expire at the end of its 10 years

You can still drive.0

Renewing the photocard is similar to updating your address when you move house. You're required to do it, and you commit an offence by not doing it whether you drive or not.* However you don't commit a further offence by driving having failed to do it - the actual licence remains valid until your 70th birthday. So yes, you can still drive.
* In practice it's not an offence you're likely to be prosecuted for.0
