Help with HSBC basic account

Hi,
I opened a HSBC basic account on 13th June in my local branch. When they did the application they said that it had been conditionally accepted to further checks.
The guy popped out the room and came back told me the account was opened.
My new card came the next day.
Also, the same day a letter has came stating that subject to further checks have shown i do not meet the banks criteria for an account.
I have no bad debt with HSBC although i do have really bad credit with CCJ's etc.
Has anyone had any experience with this? is this normal from HSBC? do i stand a chance at getting the account overridden if i go in the branch or am i wasting my time?
Thanks in advance.

Do you owe any money to the HSBC group? As in ANY at all or have any CIFAS Markers?0

Nothing owed to HSBC.
I checked my credit file about a year ago and i had no CIFAs markers not done any applications since so can't imagine having any?
Basically the guy said that my application will either give me 3 answers, a yes, a no or a conditional acceptance which mine was. He said he needed to go and speak with another department after clicking on various links on his computer.
He then came back and said everything was fine and that it had been opened.
I just called telephone banking and they said it they can't see why they have closed it since it was done in the branch and to go in tomorrow to find out why.
Just don't want to waste the journey to be told the computer says no.
Just puzzled as to why they would open it, send the card out and then do further checks to then close it.
Disappointed to say the least with them.0 -
Attempted to open a Nationwide Flex Account - well the basic one. I was told by their Special Investigation department that my application was declined since i didnt disclose an address? yet i gave the addresses for the last 3 years. For some reason there is debt at an address they have record of, that is not on my credit report.
So i feel a bit hard done by for 2 reasons:
1) i stated all the addresses i lived at in the last 3 years as required.
2) i have some debt at a property i have never lived at and is not on my credit report.0
