You don't need a cookbook or another website to have low budget meals - we have out very own 'Old Style' board right here! Check out that board!
Welcome to MSE!They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!0 -
I don't know of any 'free' cookbooks but it's really worthwhile looking in charity shops etc for cheap cookbooks - tbh the 'student' ones aren't that brilliant, I personally think they're a bit overpriced for what they are ... you're much better off looking for a good basic cookbook. Jocasta Innes ones are good (The Pauper's Cookbook) or there's Delia's 'Frugal Food'. You can pick up 70s editions of these for 50p/£1.0

As far as I know lol, 'old style' means doing things the traditional ways - cooking from scratch, using cheaper, old-fashioned alternatives for cleaning and laundry, that kind of thing. It's a good way of learning how to save money and a brilliant way of looking at what you actually need to buy. They're great habits to pick up, especially if you're a student.
Learning to cook things from scratch is a fantastic thing to do as a student too - it can work out so much cheaper, and is generally better for you too. Again, charity shops are great for basic cookbooks - anything by 'Good Housekeeping' will be good and very reliable, or the old 'Supercook' books are good too. Personally I don't really bother with the celebrity chef/tv tie in books - they're expensive, most of the recipes can be found elsewhere and it's surprising how many mistakes there are in them.0 -
