I switched to the one use disposable type from Lidl and the ££ shops, usually two for £1.50 or so.

The turkish ones are great - they are brass with little cogs inside that grind and a turny handle like this

They go on forever - but are a bit of a faff to fill.

Personally I've gone over to the disposable ones. I get black pepper and himalayan salt filled grinders from B&M for about £1 each.

We've had our set from Ikea for a few years now, no problems at all and you can adjust how fine you grind the salt/pepper.

Peugeot!?? Really, lol? Had no idea!

I have never seen disposable ones (but to be honest have never looked), but will have a look in Aldi on my way home from work tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions.

Mine are Cole & Mason (never noticed before but just had a look) and I've had them for years.

The grinder in the pepper is stainless steel but the salt grinder is plastic (or looks like plastic), I think salt corrodes metal.

Do you have a Home Bargain type shop around? I buy £1 jars of salt and pepper (separate of course) that have a grinder built into the top. It does wear out in the end, but you've normally finished the jar by then and it's cheep to replace.

Each jar tends to last around a year, so £2 a year seems good value to me.

Yes it will be either plastic or ceramic for the salt.

You can adjust the grind on C&M ones too.

Thanks. I'm off to Turkey later this week so I may treat myself.

They look a bit like this. What I've done is to clean off the labels (with some difficulty) so that they look a bit better on the table. The screw on tops are easily changed when they wear out.

These are the ones we have and are always refilled. We have yet to replace the jars and have had these nearly 2 years. However we never grind straight into cooking food and they are stored in a dark cool cupboard. If you have a look around you can find some nice simple designs.
