Insurace quote CON!

Looking to renew so went to Moneysupermarket.com to check prices..

Ran a search for insurance, based on pay annually and it came back with an annual price of £143.63, (with the option of paying monthly at £164.96 per year.)

However, I went back and changed the search option to Pay monthly and ran the check with exactly the same details. It came back with an annual price of £125.16 if I pay monthly, with the option of paying £109.27 if I pay all in one go!!

That's for me I thought so clicked on the link, which took me to the "It's For Me" website (Swinton).

There was no option on the website to select the pay annually so I called the Swinton helpline. I was told on the helpline that I could indeed have the price of £109.27, but I'd have to pay a "telephone" charge of £10 on top!!

So, the price of £109.27 doesn't actually exist!! How can a quote for £109.27 be given, if it's not possible to actually get it at that price? When Moneysupermarket.com lists a total price for buying online then surely it should be possible to actually buy it online at that price?!

Off to Trading Standards on Monday as this is totally misleading!

Take up a complaint with Moneysupermarket, as the terms of business for those companies using their site, is agreed between them.

Not sure of the price variation when you have entered at different times, unless an optional cover had been removed to bring it down to £109.27. As for Swinton wanting £10 more for a telephone arranged policy for an internet quote, if this is contained in the t&c's and agreed with Moneysupermarket, then I cannot see the problem. I doubt that Trading Standards will be interested.

Before you think about using Swinton, I would suggest that you research them online. The reviews are awful, as are the comments on these forums.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

    Hi,

I have changed it back again and the price for an annual payment drops to £109 when you search by monthly direct debit...change it back to search for annual payment and the price shoots up again!!

I wouldn't be annoyed if it wasn't for the fact that they refused to honour the price over the phone unless I pay a £10 charge!!

The problem is that the quoted price of £109 is impossible to get.

They want £119 for a £109! There is no way of buying the policy at the stated price. This, I believe, is misrepresentation.

If you have a saved quote for £109 one off premium, they should enable you to obtain this. Complain to whoever has the quote of £109 saved on their system. Moneysupermarket are responsible for any such issues, as you have gone via them.

Well, the insurance company weren't interested.

Moneysupermarket presumably just pass on the figures provided by the insurance company, so not really their fault.

I'm giving up on Swinton, having read the reviews (Thanks Huckster!) and will be going with Legal & General via Compare the market.

Slightly more expensive, but better reviews and a free stuffed toy... :)
