Morning!
Still as hot here - house unbearableNo rain, no thunderstorms ..... nothing
:p:p - off to do rain dance again soon!!!!
Just out of interest, has anyone noticed decline of wasps this year? Not seen one yet - usually by now they are around!!
Saw this on Beeb website:
Numbers are low so far this year because of a huge decline in the wasp population in 2012, say experts. That drop was the result of fluctuating temperatures earlier in the year.
No quantitative data is available for wasp numbers in the UK. Unlike butterflies and bees, there is no official recording scheme, but many experts working in the fields of entomology, biodiversity and conservation say numbers appear to be significantly down.
A warm spell in February 2012 brought queens out of hibernation early
Many then died when the weather got cold again
Fewer colonies were established resulting in fewer wasps this year so far
An unseasonal spell of good weather in late February last year is being blamed. It resulted in mated queen wasps coming out of hibernation early, experts say. Temperatures soon dropped again and many of them died because of a lack of food.
Not keen on the wee critters but hate to see a decline in any speciesMILITARY WIVES CHOIRSHELP for HEROES0 -
JOKE ALERT
A man goes in a bar... what are mangoes doing in a bar?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his
stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.
After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."
The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet..
"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or
something."
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also
delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.
The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."
The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman..
The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"
The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."
Cramp is horrendous - been there, rolled around in agony, blooming painful!!!
Wee clip snips from mail on line:
Nocturnal leg cramps can occur in all ages, but they are particularly common during pregnancy :eek:, and also more common in the elderly :eek:. In younger people especially, low sodium levels can be to blame, so make sure have plenty of salt in your diet during hot weather, or when exercising, as significant amounts of sodium can be lost in sweat.
Drinking large amounts of alcohol can add to the problem, so cut back, especially if you tend to drink a lot in the evenings.
Low calcium and magnesium levels can also contribute to the problem, so make sure you include plenty of dairy produce in your diet, or consider taking a supplement.
That said, in most people no underlying cause can be identified, and changes in the nerves and circulation within the legs is probably to blame. Raising the foot of the bed with a pillow under the mattress may help, along with stretching your calf muscles before you go to bed.
Failing this, quinine can be very helpful, and can be found in tonic water - try having a glass at bedtime. Quinine tablets are also available on prescription from your GP.
Some people also swear by a magnet, placed between the mattress and the bottom sheet. There's no need to lie on the magnet all night,:eek: but rather to place your leg over it if you feel a cramp coming on.
Happy days!!!!xxxxx
