The Compers Inn part 41

Lol - would love to hear about faulty towers! Won't bore me at all, or the other inners I am sure!!
The guy that owned the hotel was a complete nutter. And although he didn't look like Basil Fawlty, his mannerisms were identical.
For a start, he had assumed from I guess the tone of my letter when I booked that I was a lot older than I actually was, i.e. in fact, we were newly married, early 20's. And he was horrified when he saw us, you could tell, and he put us in the smallest room in the hotel - you could hardly turn around in it - and he was quite rude to us. Anyhow, he would wake everyone up at 6.00 each morning by playing brass band music through the speakers in the rooms. An elderly Scottish couple complained about this, and the following morning, he playing bagpipes really loudly through all the rooms!
In the morning, when we went down to breakfast, we were offered a fried egg and I asked if mine could be broken up, i.e. like an omelette, as I couldn't eat it otherwise (being squeamish about yolks - silly, I know!). Well, about an hour later, he came in with the egg, duly broken, and went around the room pointing it out to everyone saying 'She asked for it like this!!' Bit embarrassing.
Oh, and he had chickens in the backyard and kept telling us how all his eggs were fresh free range. But then we saw Tesco delivering trays of their eggs to him!
Then when we left, he tried to charge us double what we had agreed in letters - but luckily I had a legal friend who helped. (This was in Polperro - sorry, sorry, I know it's Cornwall and not Devon!). Mind you, the beach was great and I got a fabulous photo (being a bit of a keen photographer) of a cat sitting on a wall and a seagull landed behind him which he didn't see, and the seagull grabbed his tail in his beak. Very funny.
That's all I can remember - long time ago, when I can barely remember what happened yesterday! (:0 -

Be a hose pipe ban here soon!!! Can see it coming!! Luckily I am a secret eco warriorand have things in place! Can see a neighbour with sprinkler on their lawn ...... what is the point!! Grass will recover and good luck to them cos we are on water meters here!!!
Hope it warms up a bit for you loveSending a wee bit of sun your way, but will keep predicted thunder storms here  xxx
Thanks AlfieAfter Wednesday the hosepipe ban won't be a problem for our lawn. We're having an artificial one laid, they start on Tuesday. It's expensive but the dogs have absolutely ruined ours and it's more bald earth than grass. They say that it's great for dogs, we shall see. I'll have to post some before and after pics once it's finished.

One of our hottest days yet here I think. DH dragged me away for a walk in it too! SueMaggie will have got a shock when she arrived to this heat bet she thought it would be cold here when she booked it.
Don't think we have had a hosepipe ban in over 25 years Alfie. An artifial lawn sounds good BSue.
Love your holiday story Lisa. We have stayed with some really strange peeps over the years. We were actually staying in a hotel in Torquay when a Regional News crew came to film in it saying it was like Fawlty Towers. Actually the guy was quite nice but they were inefficient. Never got to see it on the TV though as we were going home the next day.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

:hello: Everyone,
hope all is well, dont you mean Gleneagles? as they have got frames of the Fawlty Towers stars on their wall complete with signatures and it is a very expensive restaurant to go to for lunches. It is in the Wellswood Area of Torquay and my family and I only go there for special Occassions like Birthdays etc and you have to book a table by phone before you go.Nice holiday story Lisa thank you.
I am at a party tonight for a club I go to as it breaks up for the summer this evening.
Have a nice evening!
love and light,
Katie xxx0 -
I have been to look at Gleneagles Katie but this was just a bit of a joke at a different hotel. Hope you enjoy your party.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

Lol Lisa!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Must admit, have stayed in some errm strange/quirky places over the years too! One strange place years ago was a B&B where the landlady insisted on locking up at 10.00pm - we only found that out when returning from a rather lovely village pub and found we were locked out :eek: She gave us what for big time for waking her up! We felt like naughty school kids!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Sue - love the sound of artificial grass - in fact a cottage not far from me have had their front garden done - have to say it looks fab! Lush green all year round and actually, if this makes sense - it doesn't actually look artificial - just looks the best lawn in the neighbourhood.
The peeps told me it was the best thing they had done and money well spent!
Seems to be getting muggier and more clammy here - think the night will be a challenge re sleeping!MILITARY WIVES CHOIRSHELP for HEROES0 -

Sitting on the front doorstep now as it is too hot in the livingroom but lovely and cool out here.
Guy just phoned to say he is coming to look at the car windscreen on Monday afternoon so at least we know where we are with that for the moment.
Hope everyone is keeping cool too. Shame I haven't finished the ironing yet.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media
