A member of the family was due to fly to New York, EWR on Wednesday via AMS but her father was involved in a major accident and he's currently in intensive care and will be for many weeks yet. She definitely won't be travelling anyway anytime soon,
We've asked for a refund or a delay in the dates but given it was a cheap ticket we're not overly hopeful. If she doesn't fly surely she can claim the taxes back? If she does, how would she go about it and what sort of timeframe would she have to claim by?
Fare was £93.95 plus £325.41 taxes.
Thanks for any info.

The actual reclaimable taxes would be much less than your figure less an admin charge. Can't they claim on their insurance.0

Insurance was to be booked this week, so nothing possible that way. The agents have come back to say £130 ish back in taxes. Any ideas how we go about claiming?0

Ask the agents to cancel and give you the refund!
It wasn't me, and its not like we predicted the problem we have now - she's not bothered about losing it (shes much rather what happened hasn't) but now its just a case of how much she can get back - they've advised it'll be around £100 now.0

The £325 will be taxes and surcharges which include fuel surcharge which will not be refundable
You need to see the full breakdown of all the taxes to ascertain which would be refundable
UK APD will be £67 then there will likely be some other small taxes
If you have the patience (and the details are not broken down on the booking) you can search in http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ and it will give a breakdown of all the taxes and what they are. You then need to know if the airline charge an admin fee for processing0

It would be worth contacting the airline (Air France/KLM?) to ask about possible date changes: the agent may not know what they allow, and of course it is the airline, not the agent, who is in a position to exercise discretion.0

Problem is that the airline will almost certainly insist that the agent initiates any changes (discretionary or not). If it's booked from a proper and decent travel agent he/she may take the time to push for it with the airline though if it's just booked from a run-of-the-mill online booking site I wouldn't hold my breath for much in the way of help.0
