Just done my good deed for the day. A small white tailed bumblebee got caught in a cobweb in my conservatory, and was frantically trying to escape from the spider that was almost upon it. I rescued it, but it was entangled in the web so tightly that it couldn't open it's wings. I used a piece of wire and one of those little dental brushes to pull off the silk and he flew free.:j:j
Has anyone else noticed the lack of honeybees this year. Normally my garden is full of them, but next to none so far. Is it the same situation all over the UK? I can ask on here cos you lovely lot come from all over the place.:D

Bees are going for premium prices even hives being stolen  a mate keeps them honey bees that is.
They had a bad year last year with the rain/cold etc I know he had to feed them for long enough as they could not get out so lots of bee keepers lost swarms.
So I guess same with bumble bees but nobody to feed them

Read somewhere that bees are struggling so much this year but we can help them by leaving a small dish of sweetened water for them to drink from. Apparently some of them are struggling to fly properly :(

I know the women's institute did a massive drive on bee awareness due to the rapidly declining numbers in the UK. There is a big push for people to plant bee friendly plants to try and help increase the numbers.
