I had both my sons vaccinated. One has autism, the other does not.

I had measles when I was 15 and nearly ended up in hospital.

All four of mine have had the mmr, my youngest has autism. I don't believe for a second that the mmr caused it but even if it did, measles kills, autism doesn't so I don't regret him having the mmr.

Other children who are immune compromised rely on everyone else to vaccinated to proved them with herd protection.
    A very good point.

A lot of the issue around MMR depends on parents going for the perceived 'risk free' choice. In doing so they seem to have a blind spot as to why vaccinations are done in the first place.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

My youngest is 16, he's always been different to his older brothers, I couldn't bring myself to have him vaccinated then just in case it tipped him over the edge. I have since found out i have a nephew with autism and possibly am aspergers myself.

However, now he's older, we decided it would be good for him to have it now, but the nurse wouldn't give It to him, saying he'd already had it. I am 99% sure he hasn't. ?.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • My eldest was vaccinated. He has autism linked to his cerebral palsy not his vaccine. He is immune compromised and I would therefore always keep him vaccinated.
My youngest is 6 months and will get his MMR. The benefits far outweigh the risks.

The stress that we were under wasn't stress at all..... just a run and a jump into a harmless fall........:A

My three were all vaccinated for everything at the recommended age. I would do it again tomorrow.

I delayed having the second dose of MMR for mine- the MMR debate started up just as DS was due to have it and the situation was very unclear-and took off again just as DD was due. The first dose confers a high percentage of protection anyway so I compromised a bit- I took a bit of time to be sure of the situation before doing dose 2. It also meant I was able to be sure there was no autism present before going for the second dose. I am not sure I would have done so had there been the risk there is now from measles and have a strong suspicion my actions were a bit silly-but the headlines were screaming at the time.

My two were vaccinated when they were little and it was time for that jab, they have had every needle the doctors have wanted to stick in them.

They only one I would have refused was the swine flu one, as I felt that one was rushed out a little too quick.

If 98% of people are vaccinated, then those un-vaccinated are unlikely to catch the disease.

If vaccination rates fall below 90%, then all those un-vaccinated are highly at risk.

Vaccination rates of MMR have been below 90% for a while, and in some areas WELL below 90%, hence the current epidemic of kids getting measles.

In Science lessons, not only do we teach the above, but we also teach pupils how to come to their own conclusions over reports and claims, looking at what the evidence is behind the claim to see if it is valid or not.

The problem arose due to parents believing the rubbish in the Daily Mail, not getting the MMR vaccine, then not bothering to get the individual jabs done either.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
