I think you need to think of how many of these shots you will have. Won't the others of you and your husband getting married then with all your friends etc far outnumber these ones?
Its not as if you're saying its these photos or none at all.
I still would look at a few months later getting your dress on and having a friend take 4-5 shot in a nice setting.
Have you spoken to anyone about what can be taken at your current venue? If the photographer says 'not a lot' then change him. Photographers are amazing, can add remove filter etc.
You don't sound 'for' the expense and so I would advise against. You shouldn't need people on an internet forum to help swaay you to spend money on something you aren't sure about.
You and your OH decide.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I guess I'm sort of asking if people think I'm spending too much money on one day when I know for a fact it could be done for thousands cheaper, Even though I know I wont enjoy it as much as its not what I really wanted.
)
IMO, yes, I think you are spending too much....but remember, that's just MO and I don't mean anything by it, just answering your question. Same to anyone else who is spending thousands, then if that's what you really want, then good for you, and if that's what makes you happy, then go for it! But NO wedding is worth getting yourself into debt for/struggling to pay for it etc.
Our wedding I think is still under a thousand pounds so far, granted there's not a lot of people going, but even if there was, it would still probably come in at less than 2000.
With abit of hunting around and inventiveness, you can make something unique to you, and make something that makes people go "wow, that was different, what a cool wedding that was!" But then again, maybe that's just me, I like different, and I like bargain hunting!
But, I am one of those girls who has never dreamed of her 'big day'! People are lucky they've got me in a dress....:rotfl:0 -

I look at at least two of mine every day - I've got one next to my desk at work and several around our home.0 -
Something else occurred to me - given that most photographers use digital cameras.
Maybe you could ask him to take photos against a blue background and photoshop the scenic look you are wanting.

Personally I'd say go for the hotel option because:
1) Good photos are the most important thing to you.
2) To cut down your wedding plans will involve a lot of compromises including sharing your day with another bride at the same hotel!
3) You can delay a honeymoon but you cannot repeat the ceremony/wedding photos.
For me the most important thing are also the photos. Hence why we chose a nice venue and the only area I put my foot down with my fiancee was choosing the photographer. That said I'm a wedding photographer myself so I am extremely picky! We had to double our original budget but my OH has since seen the value. Amazing given I could have got our photos done for free by calling in favours with photographers I know!
A good photographer will always have a backup plan for if the weather rains. Generally in a hotel this will be a nice room somewhere. Naturally this will affect the photos. You won't have those stunning garden locations if you are indoors
I accept I probably won't be looking through our wedding album on a daily basis or anything but for me I want a few good shots I can hang on our wall and maybe a small one on my desk. Something my grandkids can look at and think "oooh that was nice" rather than "ewww"
Each to their own. To some brides, photography isn't important. But to you OP it is. And denying that will only lead to disappointment.0 -

Just out of interest, why didn't you choose one of your photographer friends? Are they not good enough? Or did they not want the responsibility?
My Dad is a photographer, he used to do Weddings, but obviously he couldn't do mine as he then couldn't be in the photos if he did, so we've paid £255 for a photographer in Gretna Green, just the basic package, 16 shots, and my Dad can do the rest. If we'd been getting married locally I would have asked one of our photographer Friends....there are loads of them that could have done the job and would have been queuing up to volunteer their services! When we first went up to Gretna, the guy at the Blacksmiths shop showed us round the photographic locations, pretty cool, both inside and out!0 -
Couple of reasons really.
Firstly since some of them are coming to the wedding, I want them there as guests, not the photographer. I've shot weddings for friends before and it really is a full time. This means there's no time for them to enjoy the day and their partner/wife is pretty much on her own most of the day.
Secondly I didn't want to run the risk of disliking the photos and possibly ruining our friendship. A photographer is usually a very picky person and I automatically pull photos apart. I also have incredibly high standards. I want photos that I can look at and think WOW I couldn't have done that. Unfortunately that sort of photographer doesn't come cheap.
Everyone has different priorities. And to me spending £1k on a wedding dress you will only wear once is insane but £1k on a wedding photographer....i get that.0
