NVQ/College Financial Support

Hi,

I plan to start studying full-time for a Level 2 NVQ at college later this year. Would it be possible for me to get any financial support while I'm studying? I'm age 19-24 and unemployed at the moment.

Looking through all the different websites and looking at different benefits and stuff available, it seems that I would only get support if I don't have many GCSE's or A-Levels. So does that rule me out of any help while studying?

Thanks :o

You only get help if you don't already have a qualification at the level you want to study. Nobody gets maintence funding for a course at this level and you can't study full time whie claiming JSA. Sorry for the negatives.

Its worth speaking to the place where you will be studying to see if there are any grants available to assist you.

Last year, at the ripe old age of '%0', I completed an NVQ3 in childcare, part time, at my local college and the county council for that area paid 100% of the fees as I only had 'O' levels from years ago. This was irrespective of the fact that I was also earning.

If you don't ask, you don't get, plus you have age on your side, aren't there schemes in assisting the 16-24 year olds to study? My DIL aged 22yrs did a similar course at the same time, in a neighbouring county and she also got a full grant to cover course fees. She had a little part time job also and an A level.

    Hope this helps.

I think that the OP was asking about maintenance help rather than help with paying the course fee.

Thank you. I will contact the college on Monday to see what can be done. I know they tend to prioritise people in a worse situation that me but like you said, you don't know know until you ask :o

That's exactly what it was ha. I probaably wasn't too clear explaining the situation.

I am 99% sure I will get the course fee paid for. I will just have to pay for any extras the course requires.
