Declaring past claims?

Hi there,
I am looking to take out contents insurance, which I have never done before. I have however had my camera insured separately for several years, and have claimed on this in the last 2.
Should I declare this when applying for contents insurance? They typically specify something like
"Have you or anyone living with you made any household (building or contents or personal belongs) claims or suffered any loss or damage - whether insured or not – in the last 5 years?"
Would claiming on the theft of a camera come under household claims?
Adding a previous claims seems to make a huge difference in the quoted premiums- should I just not declare it?
cheers

If you fail to declare it your paying for a policy that may never payout.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Yes, you should disclose it.
If you're ever not sure whether to disclose something to an insurance company, you should disclose it. Disclosing something you don't need to disclose makes no difference to anything - just takes a few moments of your time. Failing to disclose something you should have disclosed might invalidate your policy.0 -
