I was under the impression that if on capped tariff till jan 2014 that there would be no increase till end of tariff but have got letter from scottish power stating increase to almost double the amount i pay monthly !!
I will contact them after weekend but wondered if any MSE people have been in this situation ?

Hi a capped or fixed tarriff means that there will be no increase in the unit cost of electric and gas.
If you end up in a debit position after your meter read then your monthly DD will increase, regardless of the type of tariff you are on.
Have you used more gas or electric than you originally estimated,or was your initial DD too low?0 -
Hiya, were you under the impression that because you are on a fixed tariff you can use how much fuel you like?
I wishI am on the same tariff.
Your DD will go up if you use more gas and electric than was estimated for your use over the year. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
The original unit price may not have been at the level of the cap, so a price rise could still affect you. Plus, with this long winter weather, you may have used more gas/electricity and they are adjusting payments based on your usage.0

Hi
I remember when my dd went up when I was on a fixed tariff and was a bit peeved but then I remembered its more about the price you get for the electric and gas, not how much you use.
To monitor it better and so it doesn't come as a shock to you for the future, I'd suggest submitting a monthly read of your meters. This enables a recalculation of your bill to take place. If I remember rightly, your bill shows a comparison against last years for the same period and also will tell you a forecast for your bill, using at the same rate.
May be something for you to think about doing. Best of luck.I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0 -
Has the tarrif price gone up or just your direct debit. You can't compare pricing & costs unless you know how much you use in kilowatts. Send them a meter reading every month (ideally on 1st day) and you can see how much you use and so will they and hopefully your payment will track your usage rather than just on erroneous estimates. If you aren't paying enough then you'll get a ginormous bill at the review date.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
