PPI On Barclays Loan

Options
Hello Everyone.

I had a £3000 loan with Barclays that I took out in December 1996.

I have the Barclayloan statement that says I also had Barclayloan Protection which cost £720.48 (15.01 per month x 48) which I believe was miss-sold.

I think I was late with payments but no more than twice however they issued a CCJ against me in March 1998 for £3412.91 + Costs + Solicitors fees so a total of £3545.66.

This was dealt with on their behalf by Elizabeth Handforth Solicitors and I agreed to repay £68.00 per month and repayed the outstanding by April 2003 and have the confirmation letter.

My question is do I have a chance of a claim or is it too late?

Also would the fact that they took out a CCJ against me go against me?

Thanks for reading.

What are your reasons for believing it was mis-sold?

Any amount written off would likely be offset against any redress if you were to be successful.

One reason is that they told me that it was a condition of approving the loan at the time I took it out so I were led to believe that Payment Protection Insurance was compulsory.

Sorry not sure what this means.

It means if the Bank wrote off interest or other parts of your debt then you'll likely have to repay this from any redress you may be awarded.

Your complaint is weak "hearsay", by the way, what evidence do you have that you were told it was compulsory?

I have no evidence of this , so what you are saying is that any conversations had at the time of taking out the ppi for a loan are inadmissible as i have no written confirmation or proof of it.

No, I'm saying your complaint is far weaker than someone who has verifiable evidence of mis-sale.

You can make a complaint based ont he fact it was single premium and the full costs were not explained to you, which would be an additional complaint reason, as well as the one you mention above.
You will probably need your own documentation too.

    What things will I need?
The PPI was in monthly payments plus interest so I was still paying this off after they had taken me to court untill everything had been paid off.

Do you have the agreement or loan number? this is what you need to make a claim, use the Single Premium reason as taff suggests, look here for other reasons that may apply to you.
