Where to put lump sum?
Comments

Unless your pension is large enough to save from then you would probably like to buy an ISA each every year. If you take full advantage and get both cash ISAs and stocks & shares ISAs each then you would put away that nice lump in a couple of years.
I can't advise on investments, but in terms of savings I would:
Sign up with NS&I to be notified of their next tax-free bond issue
Find an account that offers high interest with limited withdrawals
Spend a bit of time every few months looking at the best savings accounts.
If you use accounts with bonuses, make sure you diary when to change (same goes for ISAs)
If you have time / are interested, read up on here and look at peer-to-peer lending sites.
Don't forget that in retirement, some of the best investment is in having good quality, reliable appliances and ensuring that your house is easy to maintain, well-insulated etc (sorry if I am teaching my grandmother to suck eggs!)

[QUOTE=jem16;61882701Far_less_risky_than_advising_someone_to_put_their_retirement_lump_sum_into_trackers_without_finding_out_anything_about_their_circumstances![/QUOTE]
well he did say this as part of my fact gathering prior to advising trackers:
"....the rest of the money won't be touched....."
trackers are ideal here - i claim my 5% for my advice, oh and an ongoing 1% every year to checkon how its going and make adjustments if necessary.
cheers
