Claims within last 3 years? Direct Line

Hi,
I recently took out a Car policy with direct line. In which they ask for claims within last 3 years.
I have made 3 claims since Jan 2010. On taking out this new policy in May i have included 2 claims in last 3 years as one of the claims happened in April 2010.
i would like to know if the last 3 years count from date of policy starts? As i have received a letter from Direct Line which they show claims that they were unaware off.
