I posted this accidentally in the Mobile phone section ... So sorry to say am reporting.
I had a mobile phone account with them since 2006... I also Telephone and Broadband with them from 2008 to 2011 which is where the problem has accorded.
I went to the bank to get a loan as we are renewing areas of the house... I was rejected ... though I was made redundant I still kept up with payments as I had savings.... I now work full time.
I was reject a loan ... when I asked why they told me to contact a credit company ... I choose Equifax.
They looked into my account and said I had a default with O2 which I was unaware about.
When I contacted O2 I was dealt with very well and was told that they where unsure why this had happened and it was probably a
system error.... but very apologetic
Now I asked to have my contract with O2 ended due to the mess up as I didn't want to stay with O2 due to this and other problem relating to service and network issues.... they where happy to do so as they said it was a rare issue ... they changed the default on the telephone and broadband account with Equifax to settled.
Now my question is how long until my credit rating goes back to normal as the account is shown as settled but my account is still in red and am I able to get compensation for this due to not being able to get a loan or ANY finance which at some points are needed.
O2 had a duty too make sure my Telephone and Broadband account didn't go into default but it did without any doing of my own!

6 years from date of default, regardless of it been marked as settled.
formal complaint to 02, find out the exact details of how it happened, if it was there fault and they admit liability, they have the facilities to remove that full account from your credit files.
keep the complaint to writing/email, keep off the phone.0 -
Did you actually pay off the telephone/broadband account or was a bill left unpaid?
They only have a duty to make sure your account doesn't go into default inasmuch as they can't put a default on you for no reason. If you don't pay, they can't do much about that OTHER than mark it as a default.urs sinserly,

Thanks for the comment ... I formalised a complaint that's why they settled it ... They said they couldn't tell me what happened as they do not know.
They have admitted to Liability though only over a phone call but I do have all emails.
Is there a company I can complain through as they have ruined my credit rating for the next 4 years?0 -

I had paid the bill off... I was actual in credit which they refunded me 3 weeks ago when I contacted them about the default0 -

I paid my account on time and they have said their system defaulted me when I left them to join sky.
They apologised but said they can't give me an exact reason why it happened as the account was settled and I had credit on the account that was issued 3 weeks ago (which should have been done when I left them in 2011)0 -
well if it is they who are at fault, and your adamant that you were not at fault in any way, then they must remove the red marks, get back in touch tell them your going to the information commissioner if they don't resolve this to your satisfaction, you will also want at least £50 off 02 for your troubles, maybe more if you play they "you destroyed my credit file" card.0

a nice email to the ceo of 02 may get you the results you need.0
