A top I bought just 2 weeks ago and have worn once is fraying at the seams. I've lost the receipt and paid by cash. Therefore I have no proof of purchase. Do I have any recourse at all?

You have no statutory right to a remedy without a proof of purchase.
What does the shop's policy have to say about returns?0 -
Hello wealdroam. I haven't been to the shop yet. I just wanted to check first to see if there was anything remotely possible for me.0
-
Well I suppose there is a remote possibility.
If you bought from a store that has a (say) 28 day no quibble refund policy, or something.
As you haven't told us the retailer, it is difficult to make any further suggestions.0 -
It's New Look. I'll pop in on Monday and see what they have to say. Thanks for your replies.0

If you can remember the date/time/transaction total (any transaction details really) ask them if they can locate their copy of the receipt.
You need proof of purchase - doesnt have to be a receipt though. So try and pay by card in future if possible and at least that way you've got a back up if necessaryYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I had a top from Next that went out of shape when I washed it, so I took it back (no receipt, paid cash!). They just changed it for another one without quibbling!
Just see what they say!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
They don't need to do anything, how do they know you haven't stolen it?0
