I ordered a TV from John Lewis, I noticed that there was another offer for the same TV with a free DVD. I ordered a TV which said free DVD. While looking for a stand I noticed that the same product was over £100 cheaper on another site. I sent this to John Lewis and they said because I bought a bundle they cannot match it but can give me £10 back. What that means is, Looking at their competitors price I have paid for the DVD and the TV?
I wrote to John Lewis saying they should match the TV as the original TV was exactly the same. They said they can only match the price of the TV and the DVD from the competitor. The price was brought down in space of 2-3days and still they refused to match. They asked me to return the DVD player and then they will match only the.
How can John Lewis do this? I ordered the TV on its own first before I saw the one with the free DVD. exactly the same price.
I have always used John Lewis because I thought their service was second to none but this has left a bitter taste in my mouth...

The offerings have to be like for like - they will price match the tv on its own, or if another retailer is offering a tv with a dvd player, they will price match the tv plus dvd. The fact that the price is the same for the tv or the package is irrelevant.
From their website:Which prices do you match?
We match prices publicly available to all customers, based on those displayed in a shop, on the high street competitor's own website, or the first price quoted to us over the phone. The price has to apply to an identical individual product in terms of make, model, size or colour. We match bundles only on a case by case basis, and we don't match special prices only available to certain customers – such as negotiated prices or prices for groups like account holders or club members. We don't match prices only available via 3rd party websites, or with voucher codes. What if a competitor is offering a bundle of products either at a discounted price or with a free item?
We'll match on a case by case basis the total price for the bundle of products if the price of the bundle is publicly available to all customers, and the products in the competitor's bundle are identical to products we sell, including any free items. If bundled products offered at a promotional rate by a competitor can also be bought individually at full price, we won't generally lower our price for the bundle itself in-store and online.0 -
Thanks. The price is the price of the DVD and the TV on their site. they offered to give me £10 to match the price of pcworld. My point is they said it was free DVD. or was it really free?
Anyway I am returning the not so free DVD.0 -
Did you buy it online? If it is still under the 7 days DSR then I'd send it all back for a full refund just to show them that you don't appreciate their spurious "free" offers and misleading "never knowingly undersold" crap that they peddle.0

Its the price for that particular deal. You're comparing it to the price of another deal that is different.
Who is the competitor btw? Did their price include a 5 year warranty? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Well the cost of the dvd player is part of the package, so you compare like with like. The profit on the tv pays for the player. If the other store decrease that profit with a discount, you can't get effectively a double discount making John Lewis lose money on the deal.
You didn't but a tv and a dvd player, you bought a package whose components were a tv and a dvd player. Unless currys will give you a free dvd player, take the tenner and be grateful or give up the player in original condition. If the price was right when you bought the package, nothing has actually changed.0 -
