Lowell Portfolio

I've just checked my credit report and found that a company called Lowell Portfolio searched it in May. I'd never heard of this company so looked them up, apparently they are a debt bullying I mean collection company. I was puzzled that they had done the search. I have neither defaulted on current debts and my previous are all settled- no defaults there either, some late payments yes but did pay them. I've queried the searches with Experian as I think they should not be on my report.

Does anyone know anything about this company? Could they got me confused with someone else? I can't see anything else wrong with the report.

I'm thinking I should know check my call credit and Equifax accounts to be on the safe side.

Any advise would be great- these are only searches at present but I don't want other false information appearing on my report.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

  • hi around 2 months ago i checked my file and lowell came up on it as a search i didn't have any debt outstanding that they could have purchased to collect and i didn't get any answers from them when i contacted them, they seemed to know as much as i did at that point .

anyway i just left it at that as it was only on the search part of my file so didn't think this would affect me much
but yesterday i received a letter from lowell addressed to my first initial and full surname on opening the letter it said "we are searching for a miss xxxxx xxxxx
we have searched credit files of people in the area and believe you to be this person. if you are miss xxxxx xxxxx please contact us regarding this urgent matter. if you are not this person please contact us to update our records" this letter had a reference and amount owed on it so i now know how much this person owes .if they were unsure that i was the person they should not have put the ref and amount owed on it surely?

after opening the letter the first name inside was not me and the debt referred to had nothing to do with me so i have contacted them and complained they didn't seem bothered and said they would update their records no sorry or anything . but surely they should not be allowed to just randomly search peoples files when a debt has nothing to do with them .

i would contact Lowell asap and get this resolved just in case this is also the case with you

I've just got my Experian report, and noticed a search by Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd on it too.
    I've never had defaults either.

I thought companies had to get your permission before they could do a credit search? They obviously haven't had mine.

I'll sit on this for now, but please let us know here if anything happens.

I've got Experian investigating, but I have no intention of ringing or emailing or anything else. My main worry is identity mistakes.

The only contact I would be making would be a letter (not call or email) to Lowell and the Information Commissioner making a formal complaint. If they want to shoot at a target they'd better fire and hit first time and not trawl.

I'm sure that we could find someone who works at Lowell who has the same name as a current pee-do-phile or criminal, yet it would be remiss of us to possibly associate or name that person on the basis of possibility.

Experian are refusing to take the record off. I know it is incorrect. But because these numpties say it is correct Experian are keeping it on. I know I don't have any arrears or defaults so definitely not correct.

I've had some email correspondence with Experian over this. They seem to have a big problem understanding the issue - they keep assuming I want the search removed - instead I want to know what authority they have used to conduct the search.

    Today's email is here:
Further to our recent correspondence, I have been contacted by Lowell Portfolio I Ltd regarding the search dated 26/05/13. They have confirmed that the search was conducted on behalf of their client and with full authority, however they have requested that we delete the search as a gesture of goodwill. I am therefore deleting the search, as requested, from your credit report.

Your report will change in the next seven days. Please use this correspondence if you need proof in the meantime.

To keep your data secure we do not send any emails that contain personal data from your credit report.

Please view an up to date copy of your Experian credit report to view this change.

If you would like a letter showing the change that has been made, please e-mail by return and we will be happy to send this to you.

I've replied back, asking for the name of the 'client', and details on the authority given, warning that unless they can supply adequate information I'll make a complaint to the ICO.

If Experian are handing out people's personal data without any check for authority, then we should all be complaining.
