As others have said it really comes down to your local man and I am sorry to hear you have got a bad one but it is unreasonable to write of the whole myhermes operation.
The guy for my area only delivers between 9am and noon. This is city centre. He's also incredibly rude when you ring him and ask how on earth you can get hold of your parcel!
I don't think its unfair for me to write off the whole operation when they employ one courier for an area full of working young people in flats (usually restricted entry, so you end up with no card too because they can't access the letterbox) who can't get their stuff to them!
I also write them off because of their refusal to communicate with addressees and the fact that they don't offer any way for people to collect from a depot. Soolin, you might think people will never choose to pay a bit more, but I certainly do! I know that if I buy from somebody who uses them that I have about a 1% chance of actually getting my goods, so why would I bother?0
