Alton Towers festive breaks?

We've decided as a family that instead of spending money on presents this Christmas, we are hpefully going on a short break to Alton Towers.
Has anyone done one of their festive breaks? Are they any good? What kids rides are there normally open? Finally, do you think there is enough to occupy my 8 yo & 4 yo daughters for 3 days?
Many thanks,
Lisa
