Motorcycle hire in Bristol
Hello All
I've just passed my CBT and I'm looking to hire a 125cc motorbike for a day, a couple of times a month - to gain experience before doing the Direct Access and buying a sports bike.
I wondered if any of you could recommend the best value motorcycle hire in Bristol, and one which can provide safety helmets as well.
Many thanks.

bike hire is not cheap and not having a full licence will prob mean you will not find any :-(
You would be better / cheaper buying a cheap used bike to practice on

Just book a trial lesson with a couple of different companies and see which one you prefer, Whilst also gaining some experience with an instructor.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Buy your own helmet, it will fit properly, you'll know it hasn't been dropped or otherwise mistreated, and it won't have other people's sweat ingrained in the lining!0

Definitely get your own helmet.
I would never use a helmet which I didn't know the history of, even just dropping it on a hard surface can impair it's ability to protect you in a crash. (This should have been covered on your CBT).
And buy in person, from a shop, not mail order, for the same reasons.0 -

Yes, on reflection, buying my own helmet is a very good idea - that aspect was indeed covered on my CBT, so I was a tad foolish to circumvent it.
Rental wise, I've found a couple of places to rent a bike for £90 for a day, or £140 for a couple of days.
My thoughts were there are about 12 weeks of decent, dry weather until Autumn, so renting a bike for one Saturday every 3 weeks - 4 times at £360 would cut out the hassle of buying a bike I will only use for that long, and the need to arrange insurance.
Come Spring, I will buy a mid size sports bike - 600cc
As an example - looking on Autotrader, the cheapest 125cc I can find within 30 miles is £400, then I have insurance etc.0 -
I would re-think your strategy. A few years ago I did a 3 day bike course, which cost about £450 (to do direct access was a bit more) including the test and I passed 1st time (only 2 minors!!). I hadn't ridden for years so wouldn't say that I was that good at riding before the course. There is no way I would have passed without doing the course as they take you over and over the test route, tell you tips on what to look out for, how to ride safely, what the examiner is looking for, all the things you just couldn't learn riding on your own. With respect do you think you could jump from a few days on a 125cc with no tuition to taking a test on a 500cc bike? Only my thoughts from experience, however if you are like my kids you will know best

Give ACE motorcycle training a call (0117 966 8566) they hire out 125cc bikes as well as 650 Bandits. I used them for my training as well as hired their bikes on a few occasions, they're a great bunch of guys and really helpful.0
