Collection of ebay item

Hi. Yesterday I sold a Meerkat toy on ebay. I had a message asking if they can collect in person which I said was fine. They have won but not heard anymore from them. Can they choose just to pay without postage or do I have to delete the postage off? So confused.

Thank you for your help.

You have to send them a revised invoice, minus postage, so they can pay.

I ask for cash on collection if someone wants to collect in person as if they pay by paypal and collect they can file a item not received case and you won't have any proof of sending the item.
  • It would be safer from your point of view as a seller, to try and get them to pay cash on collection, rather than Paypal, although you can't force them to do this.
  • Thank you I will send them a message. Only just sarted selling on ebay found it stressful !

New seller, They may take advantage. If they pay by paypal then come and collect you have no proof you sent it.

They claim the items not received, You have no proof of delivery and they get a full refund.

You lose the item and the money. And no getting them to sign something or taking their photo wont work. Ebay just want to see proof of delivery which you dont have.

In this instance op can insists in cash. It is the buyer who asked for collection, so OP can say yes as long as cash is paid otherwise it will be posted as per auction terms.

Oh yes you can if stated on the listing !

Paypal are a law to themselves, you have to offer it as a seller but are not bound to accept it.

If someone pays by Paypal and you have stated cash on collection refund the payment and insist on cash !

No that is not correct. In this instance as collection was not offered on listing OP is free to say yes but with a proviso about cash only as they can fall back on the auction terms and insist item is posted if buyer wants to use paypal.

If collection is the only option on an auction then buyer still has the right to pay by paypal as per ebay rules. Obviously seller can refund the payment and refuse to sell, but they cannot insist buyer repays with cash- nor can do they anything then if buyer walks away from sale and leaves a neg.
