Reclaiming overpaid council tax

My CT rebate was backdated several years, due to the fact that DH has Alzheimers, and we only realised we could get a 25% reduction when we read about it on MSE! :j
This reduction can be easily verified though unlike a person claiming to have lived by themselves.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
I think this council gives a very good overview of the situation:

I wrote to the council explaining the situation. After about 6 weeks they replied and asked for proof that I lived alone for the three year period in question i.e. utility bills.
I managed to get copies of these from the utility companies and sent to the council. I've managed to get a rebate for the whole period (£900).
Happy days!0
