Any Portuguese accomodation recommendations?

Hi,

I have booked our flights with Monach to Faro for the 24th August, returning 14 nights later on the 7th September. We are travelling independently, so we need to find and book our own accomodation.

Can anybody recommend some good accomodation? We dont want to spend too much, but would like reasonable comfortable acommodation, either Self Catering or Room Only in a hotel (although SC is preferable).

I looked around at the hotel websites, and I know there is plenty out there, but to be honest, the descriptions make them all much of a muchness, so a recommendation would be hugely appreciated.

I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

Thanks Herman, I'll check that out. I've done various comparisons today, and think I like the sound / look of the Hotel Baltum in Albuferia, anybody got strong objections from thier own bad experience? Its amazing the different prices being offered £624 - £561 for the same BB two week period.

Im getting very excited.

I dont personally know the Hotel Baltum but from looking at their website think its located in the old town of Albufeira. This is the more traditional part of Albufeira with lots of bars & restaurants. The more livlier and some may say rowdier side of Albufeira is Montechoro where the strip is located.

Have holidayed in the Algarve for 6 or 7 years and my personal favourite is Alvor.

Hi, my mum and dad have just come back last week and i booked them into the Choro Mar Hotel. Its self catering and they loved it.

Check the reviews on trip advisor.
