I guess the other question would be around whether FIL is receiving means tested benefits or may be in need of care in the next few years
Giving away £180k could cause a problem if these applied0 -
Thankfully FIL has a pretty good job and earns too much to claim benefits and is still a good few years away from retirement. He also has a private pension in place so fingers crossed he should be ok but i will run it by him just to double check.
