Self Assessment and PAYE Tax Refund

Hi All

Firstly thanks for reading!

I have just completed my tax return online. I have previously completed my partnership return and used the figures from the same.

I have now completed the return and it shows that I'm due a tax refund, however when I go to the section "request a repayment", it states NIL repayment due, yet the tax return states that I had overpaid and was due a repayment of quite a bit.

Does anybody know if it takes time to update or if I make the request in a different way.

Many Thanks All

  • It appears that because I entered the details to repay (Bank Details) on my return that it may go ahead without having to make a request as stated above.

Sorry! My next question, does anybody know how long this takes, are we looking at years, months or weeks :-) Thanks again.
  • Ours took 4 weeks from time we filed to time payment received into the bank by HMRC.
  • Thanks Catherine_Johnson, was that this year.

Also can you confirm if this was after submission or after deadline?

    Many Thanks :-)

    hi,

If you have filled in your self assessment online today, it will take AT LEAST 24 hours for HMRCs systems to filter that through, and show that you are due a refund. I do tax & VAT for a number of folk, I can assure you that the systems don't operate in "real time" at all.

Check again on Monday, it should have updated by then.
If you have entered bank details, then the refund will be paid into that account. No harm in requesting your repayment at all, do that after the systems have updated over the weekend.
If you haven't seen your repayment after 4 weeks, give them a ring on 0300 200 3310 but sit down with a coffee before you dial, I was on hold for 26 mins with them earlier today.

    Good luck.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)
  • Thanks for that! I thought I'd done something wrong.

My return was really simple as I'm using figures from a partnership return (that was quite simple too), being only my second return I thought I'd made a huge !!!! up that was going to cost me!!! Eekk thank god not.

    Thank you again :-)
