When you say fixed amount of water does that mean every time you use it you have to fill it back up again otherwise it won't work?

No; it holds about 6 cups. But only one cup in the place that boils it, when that is dispensed then it fills up that part and you see the level drop.

I have a Kenwood Kmix kettle in green which I think looks really good, and it can boil a cup of water very quickly, albeit with a fair bit of noise. I suppose if you really need to save a few seconds you could get a specialist appliance.

    Hi,

    Thanks everyone for your input.

I think I may have slightly misunderstood how these devices work.

I was sort of hoping that they would act just like a electric shower - i.e. you fill the reservoir up with water and then hold down a button and the hot water comes out until you have enough.

Is this not how they work?

You would then need a boiling water tap like the type I referred to in post 2.

You cannot boil water instantaneously using a heating element.

Hiya, we have a Morphy Richards one cup in red. It is brilliant! I bought it from Amazon before Christmas.

I know it saves on electric as it boils just the water you poor in the back for one mug. I also use it for boiling a sm. jug of water to make Bisto gravy - when not using the veg water.

We also have a kettle for flasks or making a drink for a group of visitors.

I like my one cup as it stops family from over filling the kettle - for just one mug :)

No. There are plenty of videos on Youtube showing how they work. You press a button, then about 60 seconds later hot water is dispensed.

One thing I like about hot cups are you can just plonk a teabag in a cup, put it under the hot cup and hit the button. Come back 2-3 minutes later and you have a hot brewed cup of tea waiting. With a kettle you'd have to wait for the kettle to boil, pour the water, then wait for it to brew.

It does nothing my electric kettle doesn't do, and doesn't do lots that my kettle does do.

My kettle boils any small amount you need. But it can also boil larger amounts. And this device can only seem to boil water, not heat it to 80 or 90 deg, so is no good for coffee, infusions etc.

Plus my kettle can keep the water at the set temperature for as long as you need, ready for instant use.

Snake oil! In a domestic situation, just put the amount you need to boil at any one time into a normal kettle (doesn't matter what the KW's are, it's still the same amount of energy) and press click. A 3kw instantaneous water boiler will use exactly the same amount of energy to heat 300ml's of cold water as a 3kw (ie, 'normal') kettle will on the same task and achieve it in the same time (allowance for both to be a 'perfect system' in the scientific sense) - it's basic physics.

And don't get me started on those damn voltage reduction units - that's deluxe snake oil!!!

That is the trouble. Family over fill the kettle for just 1 mug and why I bought the one cup.
