Advice on choosing a boiler please.....

Hi All,

I am looking at replacing the boiler in a house we have just bought. Can anyone please help me/recommend a good combi boiler?

Looking at Valliant or Worchester Bosch. Looking to spend about £1000.

Many thanks, I'd appreciate your help! :)

  • Why are you looking at replacing it? Is it not working and/or unsafe?
  • We dont know how well it works as we havent turned gas on yet as awaiting gas and plumbing checks. We would have to get new controls and things for it though.

It is old though and we thought better to replace it now, while house is having work done, for more economical boiler, and we also want to move it over slightly.

    Thanks. x

Leave the boiler where it is, and move the house a bit in the opposite direction whilst it "is having work done"

Make sure you get your water pressure properly tested to see how powerful your new boiler needs to be. There is no point paying for 42kw if the flow of your water only needs 30kw to get it to maximum temperature. Then go for either worcester or vaillant.

I wouldn't fit WB, plus you aren't gonna get any kind of boiler fitted in the same place for £1k let alone having it moved
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

    Hi,

I just recently replace my Worcester 28i Combi for a Intergas 36/30 Combi.

Pricing is comparable to a Worcester or Vaillant, but this is a simplified Boiler that was developed for Social Housing and has very few moving parts that often break. I have had it installed for about 4 -5 months now and cannot fault it.

Have a look at Intergas Boilers on You Tube...

Pricing for my Boiler. I brought it from Plumbase for around £800... You should expect to have it installed by a Gas Safe Plumber for around £600. So would cost you around £1400.

What ever you do dont goto British Gas or you will have to extend your mortgage to get them to install it.

I think they might disagree with you there ;)

    Why would they disagree ?

The Boiler has 3 or 4 moving parts from that I recall, so there is less to go wrong...

Having looked at this again... I would firstly look at the existing Boiler... Does it actually need replacing ? Why does it need to be moved ? Can you not work around it ? Maybe just have a Gas Safe engineer have a good look and maybe a service/clean out on the burner...

New Boilers are in no way made as well as the older ones... My last Worcester lasted 10 years with some replacement parts throughout its life...
    New PCB
New Expansion Vessel to name a few

I personally think you may be better off spending some money on improved Insulation in the house rather than spending on a new Boiler.

I am very happy with the Intergas 36/30.

read the bit I quoted, I don't think Intergas would agree that their boilers were designed for council houses, reliability & less moving parts to go wrong & the same spares across the range yes, council houses no

    umm..... yes they were !

Google "Intergas Social Housing" and you will find many references to them being used and developed for Social Housing in the Netherlands :)
