Bathroom Help please (Products)

Options
Hi everyone

Been looking at previous posts ref where to buy bathroom items from but generally most people want cheap suites etc to spruce up bathrooms or for rental purposes.

We are in the process of buying the items we need for the main bathroom and en-suite as finally managed to get a plumber who will do all the work which was recommended to us by a friend.

Anyway, as this is our home for a long time and a long term project we are willing to pay that bit extra plus seeing as it's a 5 bedroomed detached victorian house we have to ensure for re-sale purposes that the bathrooms are up to standard.

Love everything in Porcelanosa but unfortunately we did not win the lottery on Saturday so I don't know where to start. Someone told me Matki is good for showers. We need a bath, 2 WC's and 3 sinks. 2 showers one for the main family bathroom which unfortunately has to be quite small so need the shower plus enclosure probably looking at shower tray of 700x700mm.

Also need a much larger modern WOW shower for the ensuite as we are only having a shower in there with WC and 2 sinks.

Where do I start and where is the best place to go in terms of costs?

I think I know what bath we want possibly a Bette bath but I want this to have a bath panel. I want the panel in a really dark Walnut wood (does anyone know how to go about this? I saw the design on the internet but nothing to say where to get this from.

I would also saw like the bath to have limestone capping if it is not ludicrously expensive. Any ideas of where to go to get this done? Based in Worcester.

Sorry about all the questions. I have searched the internet for days and days and have not got anyway.

Many thanks

  • Hi there,

We have just been through this with our family bathroom - we are in the same position - moved in and have no intention of moving out for a long time!

I have tried to make sure that everything we have put in is the best quality at the chapest possible price I can find it for...

I started this project last September (although November and December I couldn't do anything between 2 kids birthday and Christmas!)

So what we did was this...

Fitted furniture for storage from mfi (when they took deal tokens!) we also got the wc and 2 sinks which fitted into the vanity units. The quality of the furniture was just as good as a very expensive independant showroom we visited...

The bath was a pheonix amanzonite basically what it means is that it is 8mm acrylic - most baths from large diy outlets are 4-5mm I belive - which is normally sufficient - however the bath is huge and I want it to last... so thickness of the bath so my dad told me is important.

We got a Merlyn shower with stone tray - we were going to go for a Roman shower, however having spoken to the chap behind the website he said that Roman's aftercare was terrible and he recommended Merlyn. As I had seen them in a showroom and knew the quality was good and I managed to find the same style. As with thickness of baths the main difference with shower enclosures is the thickness of the glass - we have 3 kids 6 and under so this was a big concern with me. Merlyn shower are 6mm on all panels - you are hard pushed to get that at a diy chain I believe. It also has magnetic closures so no slamming required!

Taps, showers, heated towel rails and radiators - Hudson Reed all the way - find the exact items you want and just google to find the best price... Most of the towel warmers I looked at came with 2 year guarantees HR offer 10 - which tells me they don't think it will go wrong in that time.

Hubby assures me that it looks like it cost 3x what we paid - which it could have very easily... still spent a small forture though!

My main advice would be - go to showrooms find exactly what you want. Get a price from them and then Google every item. It is so time consuming I know but you at least know exactly what you are looking for rather than a general search.

https://www.victorianbathrooms4u.com - not sure if I am allowed to post website so please delete if it isn't allowed... we got the vast majority of stuff from them - they were very helpful and when I realised there was a part missing they got it up to us straight away with no fuss. One small point delivery was free however there was only one delivery driver and you can imagine the size of a 1800mm x 900mm bath - just as well I am stronger than I look!

Re your bath panel - try a local joiner they should have no problem in making this for you.

    Good luck with it all!
  • Thank you so much for your help.

Did not know any of what you have noted so it is a really big help.

Am going to spend the day measuring up etc and a plan of where I am off to on Thursday to all the local bathroom places etc.

Love the Hudson Reed fittings and noticed how they do vary in price on the internet. Amazing how the prices of everything just adds up and before you know it blown the budget (again!!!)

Thanks again - will let you know how I get on and no doubt be posting more threads requiring assistance.

    Thanks again
