Timescale to applying for a mortgage?

I was hoping that someone might be able to help. My husband and I submitted an application for a mortgage on Monday of this week and yesterday we received a letter from the surveyor telling us that they had been instructed to carry out a survey on the property by the Building Society. The question I wanted to ask is does that mean the Society are going to offer us a mortgage (obviously if the survey comes back alright?) Its seems like a quick turn around, don't get me wrong I am not complaining! I expected it to take longer as I am not sure how log these things normally take. Many thanks for your help.

Seems very quick to me, I'd ring them and check!0

From personal recent experience, our application was a rough ride!
No issue regarding affordability but the actual process was soooo long.
After survey, it was 4 weeks to offer! I just hope your application doesn't get picked for a random audit by the mortgage company like ours did, sleepless nights weren't the half of it!
Overall application was 8 weeks.
But all companies will be different, I think ours were incredibly slow.0 -
I applied on a Tuesday, the valuation was booked on the Wednesday, done on the Friday, and the offer was confirmed the following Tuesday... About 2 hours short of one week from when the application went in.0

Thanks for your responses, I posted on the mortgages forum as well and was told that it was normal practice for Coventry to book a surveyor without looking at the paper work. We got a DIP last Friday, but only submitted paperwork Monday AM. So who knows, it's seems everybody has a different experience, just hate waiting! Fingers crossed0
