in Credit cards
Ok so paid my balance off in full via d.debit yesterday so balance is back up to 500. Just paid a bill off on my card online (totalling £120) and went through fine, went to pay my 2nd bill (virgin media) and it says card declined contact issuer or try again. I tried again and it said the same even though there is 378 on the card and the bill is only £100 (I have checked online banking which confirms theres 378 in there).
Any ideas what the problem is? I pay in full every month and use the card online to pay bills a fair bit, never gone over and due a credit increase in 10 days....confused

Have you asked Vanquis?
It appears that the payment you made has been allocated to your account.
So, I guess you've triggered a security switch. It happens from time to time, whichever credit card company you use.0 -
Agree the best people to ask are Vanquis, but my guess is as follows...
DDs can be recalled* up to a couple/few days after being paid, so they're reluctant to release spending power to the value of those funds immediately.
The £120 they've released probably falls within your 'shadow' limit, but the second payment you requested would take you over that, and that's why it was declined.
Like I said, just a guess...but please feed back what Vanquis say when you ring them.
* For example, if you deposit funds into a savings account via DD you won't be able to withdraw those funds for x days.0 -
Yes it was a security alert because I used it online 3 times in a row within a few minutes and so I guess it looed a sthough it may have been stolen. They ased me a few security questions and sent me a sms to confirm it was me that used the card then lifted the ban. Its good that they do this because incase it had have been stolen but would've so embarrassing if id have been at the checkout lol0
