October 2013 Holiday Ideas?

...As the title suggests we are looking for some holiday inspiration!

Last year we (me and my mum) went to Lake Garda in June/July based on a travel agents recommendation and absolutely loved it, but our favourite travel shop has shut and we're having no luck looking ourselves so I'm wondering if anyone on here has any ideas for us?

Our nearest airports are Edinburgh or Newcastle but could maybe stretch to Glasgow. The earliest outward travel date is Monday 28th of Oct and latest return a week later, Monday 4th Nov. Our budget is up to £500 but preferably under that. We want more a of city break with some sun but not a beach as we like to walk around, see the sights and of course do a wee bit shopping. Don't need pubs and clubs, neither of us are interested in that. The places I fancy are out of season at that time or hard to get to (Seville and Cape Verde) and we are put off by the usual holiday destinations like Majorca, Lanzarote etc mainly because they are popular (if that makes sense?). Another place we looked at was Funchal in Madeira, has anyone been?

Even if anyone knows of a good website where I can search by date rather than place, that would be helpful also.

Thank you

Kim

Madeira is a good choice. Just be aware the main 'hotel zone' is outside of Funchal, but hotels often have free bus shuttles throughout the day to the centre.

Atlantic holidays are Madeira specialist, but DIY is easy enough. Do a flight search then e-mail a few hotels for prices. We have stayed at a couple of Pestana hotels and they have been excellent.

Weather most of the year is 20-25 degrees during the day.

I went on an organised tour to Classical Spain ((including Seville) with Riviera Travel and it was brilliant. Check their website.

Also sign up for sites like travelzoo and they'll send you offers.

Have you thought of Lisbon? I loved it, plenty to do both in the city and on a short train ride to Sintra.

Thats very useful info, my main concern was that Funchal was maybe too quiet or out of the way so that helps a bit. Cheers.

I hadn't thought of Lisbon even though I looked at Madeira, I'll take a browse now and I'll have to take a look at Riviera Travel, I know my mum would love to go to Seville. Thanks again.
