using credit / bank cards abroad

I would like to know when paying for anything abroad and you are asked. Would you like to pay in sterling or Euros. Which is more beneficial

Thank you

    Pay in the local currency.

Your card issuer will usually give you the best possible exchange rate.

    Agree.

I've seen loadings been 4.4% and 9%. This compares with 3% on a typical CC if you pay in the local currency. You can get 0% on PO Credit Card, Halifax Clarity and a few others.

Staff (or the system) will often "push" you to pay in sterling. This is because the merchant gets a cut of the additional profit.
