Hypothetical Query

No real motive for this question, just a thought that popped into my head that I figured someone could answer.
When parked on a private car park (such as the ones "policed" by these PCN scammers), or any other private land. Is there any requirement for a vehicle to display its registration plates?

I would expect the BIB to say yes as its generally accessible to the public. On your own property the answer would likely be no.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

So you could take your number plates off on your own parking bay behind a gate with keyfob entry then ? And the tax disc I think lolWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

Towed away for being an abandonded vehicle?
You have no proof its yours?
I think the hassle with the police wondering why you took the plates off would outweigh any benefits.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
How can they tow a vehicle from a gated underground car park ? Or you could place a cover over it I guess, they are not allowed to remove the coverWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

The question was posted last year on pepipoo and I think you have to show your licence plates even on private land. That is not to say of course, that when driving out you may have accidentally left a blanket trailing slightly out of the boot which 'accidentally' covers the car reg number from any 'ANPR' cameras, just long enough to drive out.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

that'll be true, unless its your land.0 -
Motorbikers used to cover their number plates in London, but I believe the law was changed to allow traffic wardens to lift the cover.
I have no idea whether the regulation change would allow private car park operatives to similarly lift the cover.0 -
ANPR cameras can also photograph FRONT number plates, not just the rear ones.0
