Building society gives ex husband account balances

Doubletrouble
My ex husband deposits irregularly a small sum of money in 2 building society accounts I have for my kids. My name is on the accounts and so are the kids names, I keep the pass book. He lives abroad to avoid having to make regular payments for the kids. Last week he went into building society and deposited money and asked for the balance on the accounts and th teller told him. This is obviously a breach of data protection, this is the second time this has happened albeit a number of years ago. The manager has apologized and wants me to tell her what I want her to do! And maybe I want compensation. Not sure what yo do next? I am furious as this probably means that I will receive nothing for at least a year from my ex as I have a small amount of savings! Any advice appreciated!

Close those accounts.
Open new ones.
Don't tell your ex the new account numbers.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Open a new, basic account. Have him pay the money in to it, then transfer it out!
Report the bank the the information commissioner also0 -
How will that help the OP get money from the ex ?
He could send a cheque -
other option then would be to take the money out of those accounts and put it into new accounts leaving a nominal balance in the old accounts.
re the data protection OP could formally complain, in writing, then escalate to the Financial Services Ombudsman if her claim isn't appropriately dealt with/dealt with to her satisfaction.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

He moved country just to avoid paying money for the children? Seems a bit extreme!
Maybe you want compensation? What a surprise, hello compensation culture! We're becoming more and more like America each day.0 -
Lives abroad but went into branch?
Agree with others, open another account and just transfer the money he deposits over to it.0 -
Compensation for what? You can only claim for something you have actually lost through their negligence. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

I suggest OP makes a complaint to the Head Office and asks for compo. And takes the savings business elsewhere but leaves the account in question open with a minimal balance. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0
