I receive a small amount of Housing Benefit and Ctc/Wtc. My Husband works but I haven't been working since I had my baby (I was self employed before)
My Dad has come into some money and he is giving me £5000.
Do I need to inform tax credits and the council of this amount?
I have searched the question online but can't find a straight answer.
Can anyone help?
I'm going to be using about £1000 of it straight away to get a run around car and then the £4000 will be put into my savings account that currently has £0 in.

Short answer yes as its a change in your circummstances at leas with housing benefit.
Although unless you have over £1k already in any other bank accounts it will have no affect on your benefits.0 -
I think the lower capital limit to affect menans tested benefits is £6000 so you should be ok, unless you already have other savings elesewhere.0
