Two Credit Cards - One Bank...

Just a quick question... .

I have had a Halifax credit card for years but am going on holiday in the autumn and am thinking about getting the Halifax Clarity credit card. However, I don't want to lose my current credit card (I have a relatively large amount of credit available for emergencies). Is it possible to get two credit cards from the same company or would they make me close the first one...?

Thanks!

I think it depends on the lender's policy for existing customers, Why not call and ask?

Why do you think that the credit limit can't be transferred to the new card?

Thanks for the answers. And yeah, possibly the transferral of a credit limit (with a similar interest rate) might be ideal. I didn't want to spend money phoning up, get to the end of the process and for them to say 'well, we'll just cancel your old card now'! I shall phone and ask! Thank you...

I have two Barclaycards (one was previously an egg card) and one Priority Club card (run by Barclaycard).

At one time I had three cards operated by mbna, and they would transfer unused limits between cards on request, although they don't any more.

So - it's possible, but it depends on the policy of the bank at the time. A phone call wouldn't go amiss.

My implied suggestion was to call them and ask to change the existing card to Clarity with the same limit, not to apply for a new card and then to try transferring the limit.
