White or Brown envelope ?

What's the difference between the two envelopes ? Finally got my renewal in when I came in from work and hung on half an hour and gave up for now, will try early morning.
But it said if you have a white envelope press 1 or a brown envelope press 2 ?
Just wondering what the difference is as mine came very late this year but I'm thinking it's because I reported a change in circumstances right on the beginning of the new tax year so thought it was messed up.
I already had what they called a provisional award until 2014 based on that but this new form makes no mention of my new hours only the previous one ?
I *think* I've always had white envelopes for renewal ?

Is this for tax credits? I *think* if you are in receipt of benefits, you get one colour, which means you don;t actually have to phone to complete the renewal (ie, if you are on Income Support). If you get the other colour, then you need to phone or complete the form to complete the renewal.0

I hate brown envelopes, have to start esa claim in next couple of weeks due to having to leave work on health grounds whilst medics work out if I have ms or not. not looking forward to that at all.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Hope this helps: (copy and pasted from another site)
This pack with either be:
an A5 brown envelope containing an Annual Review notice (TC603R)
an A4 white envelope containing an Annual declaration (TC603D or TC603D2) and an Annual Review notice (TC603R)
If you receive the white envelope containing the Annual declaration you need to renew your tax credit entitlement as soon as possible.
If you receive the brown envelope you simply need to review the details HMRC have included. If they are correct then you don't need to do anything else. However, if your circumstances have changed or if there are any errors on the form you need to notify HMRC as this will affect your entitlement.
You need to review your Annual review notice even if you don't intend to claim tax credits this tax year.

Working Tax Credit renewal envelopes. I just didnt understand the significance when I rang up because I went to the renewal bit and then it still said to press X if you had a white envelope and Y if you had brown ( I cant remember what number exactly !) LOL0
