Getting website higher up Google/MSN searches?

Anyone have any advice on how to go about this?

Just completed a website for a friend and would obviously like to get his site further up the rankings on google, AOL and MSN?

Looked at a few articles but to be honest it didnt help, some were saying META tags are no longer used, some were saying they are?

A bit over my head sadly.

Was looking for something a bit more simplistic.

You didn't say what sort of website.

    1. Try exchanging links with some like-minded web sites that themselves have an exchange link resources page.

    2. If it is a commerciall website (eg hoping to make some money) then out into into the best value web directory you can find, ensuring first that the link to your friend's site will appear in plain text (can see it if you hover the mouse over the link). These can start at £20 per year. Try to ensure that the directory is specific to the UK if your mate's site is aimed at the UK.

    3. Finally, put the link to your mate's site into your MSE member profile. At least we can then see it!

Don't be impatient, results can take months to happen.
