PPI Claim when debt transferred

Hi all advice please!
I'd taken out a credit card with citibank a few years ago. They wrote to me to say this was being transferred to Opus approx a year later. Once I'd paid the full balance I shredded all the information so do not have the original account information to make a claim. I've written to both; Citibank have fobbed me off to Opus & Opus have said that I need to send them £20 and they should be able to send me relevant information. Is this correct (in terms of the fee?). Also I thought it would be the original lender that would be liable for any claim?
Thanks

The fee isn't correct, if this is a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act.
Data Controllers are only allowed to charge a maximum of £10 to provide this information.
The only exceptions to this are Education and NHS Data Controllers, where the fee can be up to £50.Competition wins:

It's whoever owns the liability for it. If Opus took it over, they may have taken liability. You need ot sedn them a SAR and £10 to see what information is left. See the front page sticky.
Reasons for sending a SAR are to find out what paperwork there is, whether there is any record left, and what you actually paid, should the records exist.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
