Remove the smell of cat wee from handbag

I am wondering if anyone knows an effective way of removing the smell of cat wee?
My cat has relived herself in my handbag that I am not ready to part with yet - it has already been through a hot wash with stain remover - the bag has a black inner lining so I cannot see if there was an actual stain, it is the remaining smell that will not vanish!
Can anyone advise me so I can save my trusted bag?

Have you tried making the lining damp then rubbing in some bicarb and leave overnight and wash off the next day. You might find that this will neutralise the smell then when the lining is dry sprinkle on a few drops of your favourite essential oils.
This worked for me!!0 -
Hi clare64, awesome thanks I will give that a go (tonight if I have some at home!)
Sounds like you had the same happen? I didn't realise it had happened until I had already left the house - it wasn't fun!!!0 -
lavender and rosemary oil combined helps too but given it is a handbag not sure ideal solutionI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Try Dettol anti bacterial spray. I use it on fox spray around the outside of the house and it does the trick.
good luck!

Bicarb will work. I used to use it on the carpet when my cat was litter training0

I have a stray male cat that sprays if he gets in (much smellier than standard girl wee I can assure you), and spray vinegar.. Once the vinegar smells clears, so does the cat smell.0

Another vote for (white) vinegar.
Cat pee is alkaline and the acid neutralises it.0 -
I heard a tip for neutralising smells in cars is to place a tray of vinegar inside, and leave for a day. I assume the fumes do the work, since acetic acid evaporates at room temperature. You didn't say what the bag is made from, hopefully it is vinegar proof.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

You could make a new handbag.
I hear cat leather and fur is popular at present.0 -
