Proof- travel insurance

I'm sorting out travel insurance today for my hol on Friday, I have read the article and now just trawling through all the deals. Anyway, I just wondered if you had to provide proof of any items that I may claim against. Eg, I'm taking my DS, I bought it some time ago and don't have any proof of purchase. If it got stolen would the insurere just pay up or would they require proof?
Also, How do you guys rate the insurers that come up on moneysupermarket? I mean the CHEAP ones. My friend isn't bothered about it, quite happy to pay £15, but I'm a little cautious.
Cheers

Always have travel insurance at the date you pay for the holiday to have cancellation protection.
Any info that you have to back up a claim is worth having, so take pictures etc., because the insurers will try every trick to deny claims.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
in the case of a personal belonging, you would need to prove ownership. eg the DS, if you had paid for it on cc, you may be able to produce the cc statement as proof of purchase;
if it's in the case of say, travel delay, and you get delayed as per t+cs of travel insurance, keep any receipts for what you spend in that time. same goes for anything that you purchase abroadif it gets stolen or damaged.0
