Car insurance

My wife renewed her car insurance last month with the RAC and I am a named driver on her policy. The RAC have now informed her that they are taking a further £28 from our bank account as they have discovered that I made a £200 claim on my car insurance 2 years ago.
I would emphasise that this was not a claim on her policy but one that I made on mine.
Obviously my renewal premium increased to reflect the claim but is it legal for us to be penalised twice for the same claim?

Yes, you must declare all accidents/ incidents each of your named drivers have been in. She has made a false declaration and has been caught out.

Thankfully for you they have decided to accept it was an innocent oversight and so simply charging a small additional premium. Many insurers would increase much more than that due to the fraud risk or void the policy for non-disclosure which causes her problems for life

You are being "penalised" because your wife incorrectly completed the application for her insurance by omitting to inform them of your claim.

Thus they incorrectly calculated the premium as you are now getting a loading for your claim.

Whoever's car you drive you are still now a worse risk than previously.

Your a higher risk because of the claim, So you can be penalised as many times as policies your named on.

And for upto 5 years also. Sounds like the premium would have been the same and thats just an admin fee though.
